The Little Things
As I was driving this morning, I started to think about all the little things in life that make me happier than they should. So, I decided to dedicate this post to all those little things. In no particular order:
1. No traffic
Lately I have noticed that I am starting to develop road rage. I am usually very easy going and patient but recently there have been a number of drivers who seem to be doing something other than paying attention to the road (i.e. texting, putting on makeup, etc.). This leads to accidents, which inevitably leads to traffic. It always seems to be when I’m headed home for the day so I’m already tired and ready to clock out. When I can just relax and have a smooth trip from work to home, I am surprisingly happy! I know 99.9% of people hate traffic but I especially LOVE no traffic.

2. Hitting every green light
This is a great follow-up to number 1. What is the point of no traffic if you are hitting every red light? Where I live, most of the traffic lights are on timers. If you hit that first one just right, all the rest will turn green at that perfect moment before you start to slow down.

3. Being the only car in the parking deck
Do you sense a trend here? I have a bit of anxiety when it comes to driving and things related to driving. When I arrive at work in the morning, the last thing I want to do is go to every level of the deck searching for a place to park. There are rare occasions though where somehow I am the only one (at least that I know of) in the deck. I have my pick of parking places on the first floor. Yes! It’s a definite way to remember where I park because I am known to forget some days.
4. Waking up naturally before my alarm clock goes off
There is nothing worse than being woken up unexpectedly or by a really loud noise (um, fire alarm). I have my alarm set to a song that I really like so that it doesn’t have a negative connotation to it. However, it is still nice to wake up without the assistance of something. When I end up getting up before my alarm goes off, I feel much more awake and calm compared to when I am woken up by music.

5. Cable TV
I know I mentioned this in an earlier post but I felt like it is definitely a little thing worth mentioning. My husband and I both need something going on in the background to concentrate on work. Music is great, but sometimes we find ourselves singing to it and getting sidetracked. This is when we just put the TV on some 30 minute noncommittal show that leaves the perfect amount of background noise without drawing too much attention.
Even though the above reason is enough for us to want cable, my favorite thing about cable is that they play the BEST movies around holidays. Our favorite channels have things like “13 Nights of Halloween”, “Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas,” and “25 Days of Christmas.” Each day these channels play a movie (or multiple movies) that has to do with that holiday. There’s nothing like a constant stream of great holiday-specific movies to get you in the spirit.

6. Filtered water
Ok, this is a big one for me. I have been teased a number of times for my pickiness when it comes to water. I know some people don’t care for water but I absolutely love it. Actually, I only drink water and milk. I hate when I can taste/smell chlorine or other weird things in my water. Also, the faucet water where I live is full of metal flavor. As a present last year for Valentine’s Day, I got a Camelbak water bottle with a Brita filter. It is pretty much attached to me at all times. Now I can fill it up anywhere and be happy. It is great at filtering out those nasty flavors that my abnormally sensitive taste buds seem to dislike.

Well, that’s all for now. I would love to hear some of the little things that make you extremely happy. Have a great night!
