This week has been jam packed and I am a little behind so today I thought I would quickly drop in to tell you five random things about my week. Feel free to tell me some random things about your week in the comments.
1. Unfortunately Sirus got sick this week and ended up needing some antibiotics and some good ole TLC. He didn’t want to eat or drink or play. All he wanted to do was sleep. It was pitiful.
2. The crib mattress finally arrived and so we have started to sleep train…I think she is handling it better than I am. When I look in that giant crib at my tiny baby I can’t help but picture her as my sweet newborn and want to hold on to that forever! It’s bittersweet to see her growing up.
3. Chocolate covered raisins have been my go to snack lately when I’m craving something sweet. I just grab one small handful and that leaves me satisfied until dinner.
4. As I was cleaning out some old boxes in the guest bedroom I came across some things from my teens that had me pretty nostalgic. I have to admit that I felt a little old when I realized they don’t even make some of these things anymore.
5. I’m really trying to learn how to use my Nikon DSLR. I mean, I bought it for a reason. I might as well learn how to fully take advantage of all it has to offer. There is a lot of information out there but most of it seems pretty straightforward. Be prepared to put up with seeing my progress. We will see how it goes.
So, I definitely didn’t take this picture. Did anyone believe that I did? Well, hopefully soon I will have some beautiful pictures of my own to show you!
You know when you are just hanging out with your best friend and the conversation just seems to turn to a really weird/interesting topic and you have no idea how you got there? Well, my husband and I have that happen a lot. It got me thinking it would be a fun thing to write about since I find it so fun to talk about.
In A Zombie Apocalypse
I don’t know if it is binge watching The Walking Dead or if we are just weird but we started talking about who we would want in our group in a zombie apocalypse. There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing who you want to survive with. Obviously we would need someone who is good with weapons. We would want someone who is good at tracking. We would absolutely want someone who could cook (we both can cook but we chose other jobs). We started going through our friends and family and assigned people to different roles. We also tried to limit the amount of people on the list because having a big group would not be practical. It gets really hard when you have to start cutting people.
If You Had To Choose
I am terrible at making decisions about what I want. Sometimes it can be a problem. One night after a date where I had a hard time deciding on a dessert, my husband and I asked each other “If you had to choose one dessert for the rest of your life, what would you choose?”. This question stumped me. My husband quickly answered that he would choose cheesecake hands down. I hadn’t even considered that which put me in a tight spot because it added yet another delicious treat to my list. In the end I was trying to decide between cheesecake, triple chocolate ice cream, homemade banana pudding and homemade chocolate-peanut-butter-oatmeal cookies that my mom makes. I still can’t decide but in the end I chose to go with triple chocolate ice cream because you can never go wrong with ice cream. Also, the other three I only get on special occasions so my love for them may be less if I had them all the time.
Which Body Part
Please don’t judge. I’ll just jump right in because there really is no explanation as to why we discussed this. If you were trapped in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere as the only survivor and you were starving, would you eat the bodies and if so, which body part would you eat? I debated even admitting to talking about this but it is a legitimate question that unfortunately people have had to face in real life. My husband and I both said we would eat the bodies (if we thought there was chance of rescue). As to which body part, I decided to go with an arm first. I would want to preserve as much of the body as possible in case I was rescued.
Please tell me that other people have similarly crazy/inappropriate conversations.
What would you do in the above situations?
What are some crazy conversations you have had before?
This post was originally supposed to go up before the arrival of mini T so be prepared if the timeline seems a bit odd.
The past few weeks have been a bit baby heavy around here. I know reading about baby-related things isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and it seems like babies are taking over my blog world right now. A large number of the bloggers I follow are either pregnant or just had a baby. Karina, Julie, Gina, and Jessare just a few. I thought things would eventually slow down but they have actually sped up and time is flying by. We are no where near ready for our new arrival and have a lot to do before the big day.
That being said, today I wanted to talk about something I never thought would happen to me. I have become one of those people who care way too much about their dog. Let me start by saying that I do like dogs and if I had to choose between cats and dogs, I would choose dogs every time. I just never thought I would have a dog until much later and it never was something I included in my “plan” if that makes sense. Last March, my husband and I got a Siberian Husky puppy (<—my first post!). It was something my husband had been wanting since he was 8 and it just worked out to be the perfect time for us to get one.
Those first few nights were rough and honestly I thought he would just be “my husband’s dog.” I have had dogs before but I don’t get attached to animals easily. Boy was I wrong. This dog has weaseled his way into my heart. He has such a personality and is super intelligent. He was so easy to potty train and hasn’t destroyed any furniture (or anything really). When he doesn’t get what he wants, he actually pouts. Who knew dogs could pout? He also legitimately listens when you talk to him and he turns his head and stares into your soul with his deep blue eyes.
Can you tell I like him just a little bit? There are so many things I could say about him but that would just be ridiculous and they are probably things that everyone thinks about their pets.
The problem here is that now I actually stress out about him. Does he have enough toys to keep him happy all day? Is he cool enough? If we have to board him, will they take good care of him? Will he be ok after being fixed? Is he getting enough exercise? I actually googled “how to tell if your dog is happy” among other absurd things.
As I was talking to a friend earlier this week, she said “you really love that dog don’t you?” That’s when I realized…I had become one of those “pet parents” that I used to laugh at. I get it now. Now, instead of giggling to myself when I hear about someone going out of their way to make their dog happy, I actually think “would I do that for Sirus?” So yes, somehow the thing I never thought to avoid because I never thought it was possible actually happened. I am now attached to this animal and I have a feeling it is just going to get worse as he gets older. You may now judge me if you want.
What are some ridiculous things you’ve done for your pets?
The past few days have been crazy. This past weekend we had a ton of errands to run that we had been putting off. First thing Saturday, we had to get the hubby a much needed haircut. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was closed…on a Saturday. So we made a quick decision to move to our next item on the list and get our car serviced. We have free service coupons that came with our warranty and so we take our car to the dealer every six months and they do everything (including wash our car). It is a pretty sweet deal. We anticipated it taking about an hour so we decided to reddit <—an awesome time-passer. Yes I use it as a verb. Anyway, 30 minutes later, we were good to go!
By this time, we wanted to head home and let the little man out.
We had some play time in the yard and then he got Furminated. Side note: If any of you have a dog that sheds, you should seriously invest in a furminator. It is a bit on the pricey side but it is the best thing ever.
After spending a few hours at home to clean and play, we headed out again for a Costco run to get some essentials. When we got home, we had some delicious leftover deep dish pizza from dominos waiting on us. Not the healthiest meal but it definitely hit the spot for this pregnant girl.
We finished off the night by watching the LEGO movie on TV. I didn’t’ really have any expectations for this movie but it turned out to be pretty good and I definitely laughed pretty hard at certain parts.
Sunday, after church we headed out again to get some food for the week and some last minute ingredients that we needed for our Italian Wonderpot. It’s super easy because you just throw the ingredients in a pot and let it cook for about 20 minutes. Then viola! A simple and healthy meal. We tweaked it a bit so I’ll post the original soon.
I hope everyone is having a great week. The weekend is almost here!
Hello again! It’s been a while since I popped in. Sorry for my absence but things have been crazy around here lately. Let me back up and do a quick recap of the last few months.
Palm Springs Recap
In early May, I attended a conference in Palm Springs, CA to present my recent graduate studies. I was there for one week and unfortunately didn’t get many chances to explore. The first few days were extremely hot but there is no humidity which was nice. Due to the drought, water was scarce (huge bummer because I only drink water and milk) so I had my water bottle practically attached to my hip the entire time. As crazy as it sounds, it just so happens that the three days that it has rained there in the past three years were my last three days there. I wasn’t really surprised because rain pretty much follows me. Anyway, here is my trip in pictures. It’s mostly mountains because that is all that surrounds Palm Springs.
In June, we moved out of our apartment and into a house. Our entire month was filled with preparations for the move. It was a stressful move because it happened mid-week instead of on a weekend so we both had to take off work in order to get it done. I will share some pictures as we get settled. Even though we have been here a few weeks, we haven’t had time to unpack except on weekends.
The first weekend of the month was the fourth of July so we headed to my grandparents house. We had the usual BBQ (burgers, ribs and hot dogs) with watermelon and homemade ice cream. We headed to the local park to hear some pickin’ and grinnin’ after lunch. Unfortunately, it was raining so we didn’t spend much time there before heading back. Then, around 8 we headed back to the park for the fireworks show which is always one of my favorite parts of the day.
The next few weekends were spent running errands and picking up things for the new house. We did manage to squeeze in a date night where we saw the new Minions movie and we both loved it.
